Google is working on placing Gemini at the centre of its software offering, bringing its AI tool to a lot more devices beyond smartphones.

Gemini is already accessible through your phone, of course. On Android in particular, it’s generally only ever a button press away.

Now Google has announced that it’s bringing Gemini to a bunch of wearables, cars, smart TVs, and mixed reality headsets.

Gemini on Wear OS and Android Auto

As has been widely rumoured, Gemini is coming to Wear OS smartwatches in a big way.

You’ll be able to talk naturally and have your watch understand what you’re trying to get at, whether that’s a reminder or a query about a restaurant your friend emailed you about. No phone required.

A similar level of intuitiveness is coming to Android Auto, replacing Google Assistant with the company’s contextually aware AI tool.

Google promises that Gemini on Android Auto will lessen the need to tap buttons on the screen or think of the perfect directional prompt. You’ll simply be able to talk to your car using natural language, and Gemini will guide you along your way.

It should be able to deal with trickier requests into the bargain, such as requesting a charging station en route to a post office that also happens to be near a park. It’ll also be able to summarise your messages, translate your replies into another language, give you a rundown of the news, and more.

Google says that Gemini is coming to Wear OS and Android Auto over the coming months, and Wear OS is also getting the Material 3 Expressive design.

Gemini on your TV and headset

That’s not all that Google has to announce on the Gemini front. The company’s AI assistant is also coming to a Google TV near you.

Using Gemini, you’ll be able to ask your TV for recommendations for age-appropriate action movies (to use Google’s own example). It’ll also answer general knowledge questions and even bring up appropriate YouTube videos to help you learn more about the subject.

Finally, Google is bringing Gemini together with its Gemini with Android XR platform, which is being created in collaboration with Samsung.

A whole range of mixed reality headsets and glasses will be able to help you with travel itineraries, “surrounding you with videos, maps and local tips”.

Google will be holding its big Google I/O 2025 event on 20 May, where we’re expecting to hear a lot more about its plans for Gemini. We should also get a close look at Android 16 and Google’s bold new Material 3 Expressive design language.

Whatever software update Google announces, though, you can bet your bottom dollar it’ll have Gemini AI at its very centre.
