The long-awaited second season of Peacemaker is looming on the horizon. After publishing some set photos and a short teaser, James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, has finally revealed when the infamous Christopher Smith and his crew will return on Max.
Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, first appeared onscreen in 2021 in Gunn’s campy film The Suicide Squad. The rogue superhero (or rather, villain) was rude, stiff, and not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he captivated audiences. DC executives quickly decided to give him a standalone show.
The Peacemaker series debuted on Max in 2022 and was a smash hit. The black humour and camp aesthetics refreshed the formula of DC’s superhero stories. The opening credits sequence, fuelled by the banger Do Ya Wanna Taste It, also slayed.
The season finale left fans hungry for more Peacemaker. Here’s everything we know about the second season of his show.
When will Peacemaker season 2 be released?
According to James Gunn, the second season of Peacemaker will debut on Max on Thursday, 21 August 2025.
Shooting for the second season of Peacemaker started on 13 April 2024, and now the show is in post-production.
The new season will be part of the DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters project, developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the heads of DC Studios. The first entry in the rebooted universe will be Superman, scheduled for release on 11 July 2025.
Initially, the Waller series, telling the story of Amanda Waller, was to appear before the return of Peacemaker. Ultimately, Gunn gave up on this idea – the series about the head of the Task Force X program will now premiere after Peacemaker season 2.
What will the plot of Peacemaker season 2 involve?
So far, no specific information about the new season’s plot has been revealed.
However, all indications are that it will be a completely new story. James Gunn has announced that season 1 won’t be considered DCU canon, although certain events from Peacemaker’s past will be relevant.
According to the chief of DC Studios, the new Superman movie will impact the second season of Peacemaker.

Which new characters will appear in Peacemaker season 2?
So far, James Gunn has revealed two major new characters who will appear in the second season.
The first one is Rick Flag Sr. (the father of Rick Flag, who died in The Suicide Squad), who will be introduced in DC’s new animated series, Creature Commandos. In Peacemaker season 2 he will be played by Frank Grillo.
As Gunn told Entertainment Weekly, Rick Flag Sr. will be a complicated character:
This isn’t just a good guy, not at all. We see all different sides of his character. He is morally a complex human being. Grillo is somebody who I’ve known for a little while, and I’ve wanted to work with him for a long time. He was one of the first people that I talked to when I took over the studio, like ‘we’re going to find something cool for you,’ and now he is everywhere.
Recently, James Gunn teased another character, publishing on social media a picture of the mysterious individual:
In response to the post, DC fans began guessing who might be in the picture. Based on the distinctive braids and feather embellishments, many fans are betting on Apache Chief – a Native American superhero appearing in an animated series Super Friends in the 1970s and ’80s.
Another possibility is Long Shadow, an Apache Chief-inspired character who appeared in the Justice League Unlimited animated show, airing in 2004-2006.
Also joining the cast will be:
- Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux
- Tim Meadows as ARGUS Agent Langston Fleur
- Alison Araya as Amber
- Lenny Jacobson as Evan
- David Denman
