OnePlus is gearing up to release its next mid-range phone, and the company has now confirmed exactly when it’ll launch.
The Nord 5 will be revealed at OnePlus’s ‘Summer Launch Event’ on 8 July, as it aims to compete with key rivals such as the Google Pixel 9a and Samsung Galaxy A56.
In announcing the launch date, OnePlus has also revealed key specs for the device, and they make for encouraging reading.
The Nord 5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a 2024 chipset that remains one of Qualcomm’s most powerful. You can also expect fast LPDDR5X RAM, which OnePlus says will help enable 144fps gameplay for titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile.
That suggests the display will have a 144Hz refresh rate, which would be an upgrade on the 120Hz panel found in last year’s Nord 4.

Elsewhere, an advanced cooling system supposedly ensures “smooth performance even during intensive use and gameplay”. As usual, we can’t be sure of this without testing for ourselves, so look out for our full Nord 5 review once the device launches.
And of course, a key question mark right now is price. Will the Nord 5 be more expensive at launch than the £429/€499 Nord 4, potentially pushing it closer to the Pixel 9a (£499/$499) and Galaxy A56 (£499)? Time will tell, but it looks set to be one of the leading mid-range phones of 2025.
Plenty more to get excited about
While the Nord 5 is the highlight of the event, it’s far from the only device that OnePlus is launching on 8 July. Here’s what else you can look forward to:
