Nobody Wants This season 2: In summary

  • Filming wrapped for season 2 in the middle of May 2025
  • This could indicate that the series is on track for a similar release window to season 1
  • Adam Brody has discussed the significance of ‘that’ kiss with Netflix Tudum

Netflix hit it out of the park in autumn 2024 with Nobody Wants This, a breakout, heartwarming rom-com series that garnered a huge social media following. The show follows a sex podcaster, Joanne, and a rabbi, Noah, who meet at a bar.

Despite that ridiculous description, this series has captured the hearts of viewers – with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody having chemistry that’s off the charts and Timothy Simons and Justine Lupe providing hilarious sidekick energy… plus, Brody’s hot rabbi appeal (aided by his previous role on The O.C.) has certainly helped with publicity.

If you’ve binged all ten episodes of Nobody Wants This, you’ll know that the story was left on a big cliffhanger. With that in mind, we’ve gathered all we know about season 2 of the Netflix hit.

When could Nobody Wants This season 2 be released?

We may not have to wait too long for season 2 of Nobody Wants This if the production schedule for the first season is anything to go by – and thankfully, this latest season seems to be following the same trend.

The series was greenlit by Netflix on 1 March 2023, while filming kicked off in March 2024 – the series was then released just six months later.

Filming for season 2 was estimated to kick off in February 2025, according to US Weekly, and wrapped in the middle of May 2025. This was confirmed by Jackie Tohn’s Instagram post, where images of Kristen Bell, Adam Brody and Justine Lupe all feature:

This filming wrap date is a similar time to season 1, so we estimate that Nobody Wants This could return in September/October 2025.

Of course, this is just an educated guess. Once Netflix makes further announcements, we’ll update this article.

Who could star in Nobody Wants This season 2?

Netflix hasn’t confirmed a cast list for season 2. However, Foster told The Wrap that both Kristen Bell and Adam Brody would be up for returning as Joanne and Noah respectively.

We could also see the following actors return:

  • Justine Lupe as Morgan
  • Timothy Simons as Sasha
  • Stephanie Faracy as Lynn
  • Tovah Feldshuh as Bina
  • Paul Ben-Victor as Ilan
  • Jackie Tohn as Esther
  • Emily Arlook as Rebecca
  • Sherry Cola as Ashley
  • Shiloh Bearman as Miriam
  • Stephen Tobolowsky as Rabbi Cohen

However, creator Erin Foster will be moving into the role of just an executive producer, passing showrunner duties onto Girls alumni, Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan.

What could the plot of Nobody Wants This season 2 be about?

We’d expect the show to pick up not long after the events of the first season – spoilers for the ending of episode 10 below!

Joanne and her sister made an unexpected appearance at Noah’s niece’s Bat Mitzvah, despite originally faking illness to get out of it. Once she learned about Rebecca’s lies about her and Noah keeping in touch, she decided to show face.

After arriving, she announces to Noah that she’s happy to convert to Judaism – something he had originally said was crucial for a serious relationship and would allow him to be promoted to head rabbi.

However, after learning about the responsibilities involved with being a rabbi’s wife, she makes a U-turn, being honest that this isn’t what she wants. She ends the relationship and leaves.

In true romantic style, Noah chases her down to kiss her, proving he still wants to be with her after all.

But what does that mean? Well, Brody told Tudum that the kiss is his way of saying “I put you first. Everything else will work itself out, but I’m saying that you are my priority.”

While that may have seemed like a spur-of-the-moment thing, this is a theme that will be central to the complexities of Joanne and Noah’s relationship going forward. As Brody elaborates in the same article, “I think that’s what the show can explore. What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else?

It’s a sacrifice, but ideally you grow together and you’re better for it — you don’t have to lob off a limb.”

One other big storyline of season 2 could be the budding friendship between Morgan and Sasha. Timothy Simons expands on this in the same article, “…it does make sense that whatever loser sibling connection they have, that is a connection… It’s them trying to navigate what that connection really means or what is behind that. They can’t deny that there is one, but what’s underneath?”

This is made more complicated by Sasha’s wife, Esther, who is quite threatened by Morgan and her sister. Jackie Tohn explains more about her character’s mindset towards the end of the first season: “… from Esther’s point of view, the wheels are falling off.

There’s secrets that have been happening. I don’t know how deep they are, and before the end of the season, we don’t discover that. What actually has been going on? How close are they?”

Therefore, there’s a chance that we could see a potential fallout between Sasha and Esther as he and Morgan grow closer.

Will there be a season 3 of Nobody Wants This?

No confirmation has been given about the future of Nobody Wants This beyond season 2. However, creator Erin Foster told IndieWire the following:

I think the conversations have definitely started to happen about a potential Season 2. The story in Season 1 unfolds really slowly. And so I think if there is a Season 2 I would want to just kind of pick up where we leave off and continue to take it slow, because I don’t want us to get too far ahead of ourselves. I mean, I want my show to be on the air as long as possible!

So, the creator has plans for what sounds like multiple seasons – plus, the early renewal for season 2 could be a good sign that this show will continue for many years to come.
