Netflix May End ‘The Witcher’ in 2027

If you’re still waiting to see how The Witcher wraps up, your patience might need to carry you into next year.

Netflix previously touted the show’s fifth and final season as one of its heavy hitters for 2026, but fans online have recently noticed the streamer’s media center and promo materials have quietly omitted it. Spotting this, What’s On Netflix was able to confirm the push into 2027, but acknowledged Netflix hasn’t publicly commented on the matter at time of writing. And as far as when in 2027’s concerned, that’s also currently up in the air.

The Witcher isn’t the first show to have a delay, Netflix or otherwise, and we’ve known for a while this would be its last season. Shot back-to-back with season four, season five’s filming wrapped in late 2025, and there’s been a surprising amount of silence since then. Even accounting for the VFX work that goes into the show, Netflix is no stranger to giving updates on shows or films that are actually farther away than we think.

But as WoN notes, the streamer’s had a stacked year of returning originals—as far as genre shows are concerned, new seasons for One Piece, Devil May Cry, and Avatar have all came out. Since we now now those seasons were hurting for viewers, maybe The Witcher was pushed so it can get proper buildup and feel like an actual event. It might also be a matter of timing: The Witcher 3 is getting a new expansion in 2027, and releasing the show close to it may drive interest in both, like what happened with Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners.

Whatever the reason, we’ll have more on The Witcher’s last season as news emerges.
