According to The Verge, Netflix will be removing most of its interactive content from the platform. There are currently 24 interactive specials available, but after 1 December only four of these will remain: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls, and You vs. Wild.
Meanwhile, programmes based on Carmen Sandiego, Boss Baby and Puss in Boots will disappear. Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale was, incidentally, the first interactive special on Netflix, made several years before Black Mirror: Bandersnatch became a hit.
This is something of a disappointment for a technology that Netflix previously promised to invest in. A Netflix spokesperson, Chrissy Kelleher, explained to The Verge that the feature “served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on other areas of technology”. Mike Verdu, former head of Netflix’s gaming division, also confirmed that no more interactive titles are planned.
