The tragic fate of Mufasa in 1994’s The Lion King broke the hearts of viewers across the globe. A few years ago, Disney, tireless in creating new versions of its famous animated tales, presented a live-action version of that story. That was then followed in late 2024 by a prequel called Mufasa: The Lion King, which covers the childhood of Simba’s brave dad.
The story of Mufasa is told by none other than the wise Rafiki to cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala. Through the story, viewers will again visit the savannah and the jungle filled with extraordinary animals and many secrets.

How to watch Mufasa: The Lion King now
Mufasa: The Lion King is still available to watch on the big screen in the UK and US.
In the UK, you can book tickets via Vue, Showcase, Odeon or Cineworld websites.
In the US, tickets are available on AMC Theatres or Fandango.

When will Mufasa: The Lion King be released on VOD?
Mufasa: The Lion King is now available to rent and buy.
In the US you can get it from Amazon, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. UK viewers will be able to get it from Amazon, Sky Store and Google TV.
When will Mufasa: The Lion King be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
Disney also confirmed that physical copies of Mufasa will arrive on 1 April 2025 in the UK and US.
These will feature a bonus full sing-along, outtakes, behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew and deleted scenes.
When will Mufasa: The Lion King be released on streaming services?
As a Disney movie, Mufasa will eventually land on the Mickey Mouse streaming service. For now, the exact date remains unknown. Arguably, this will happen soon after the release of physical copies of the film – Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2 appeared on Disney+ three weeks after the release on DVD and Blu-ray.
If Mufasa: The Lion King follows the same pattern, it may be available for streaming in late April 2025. Once we know more, we’ll update this article.
