Mike Flanagan’s ‘Exorcist’ Absorbs Mike Flanagan’s List of Favorite Actors

We still don’t know much about Mike Flanagan‘s The Exorcist other than it’s (thankfully) unconnected to The Exorcist: Believer and its main characters will be played by some major stars, including Scarlett Johansson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane. Today we’re learning the cast will also feature some faces especially familiar to fans of Flanagan’s horror TV series, including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

This is probably the least surprising twist that The Exorcist could spring, considering Flanagan has already proven his fondness for working with the same actors over and over. And perhaps he was waiting to cast all the big roles (also including ones played by John Leguizamo, Sasha Calle, and child actor Jacobi Jupe) before sprinkling in his usual suspects. But as Deadline reports, the “Flanafam” will very much be out in full force.

Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Gil Bellows, Carl Lumbly, Robert Longstreet, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr., Benjamin Pajak, and Carla Gugino will all appear in The Exorcist in some capacity. “Character details for all new cast members are under wraps, as is the plot,” the trade reminds us.

At least one of those folks—Samantha Sloyan, so terrifying in Midnight Mass—has a prominent part in Flanagan’s Prime Video adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, though the rest of that ensemble are mostly newcomers to his ever-growing stable of players. Carrie arrives on the small screen this October, and The Exorcist is scheduled to hit theaters March 12, 2027. In the meantime, all adjacent thespians better start clearing their schedules for Flanagan’s next big horror feature: a new adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist.
