The words “hoarder” and “horror” flow together so well, and now a new movie will tap into the discomfort that the phrase suggests. It’s called Rot, and it’s got some noteworthy talent attached. For starters, Mike Flanagan, who just revealed a new trailer for his Prime Video Carrie series earlier today, is aboard as producer, with some of that show’s cast members signed on to star.

As Deadline reports, Matthew Lillard and Amber Midthunder—who play Carrie White’s high school principal and teacher, respectively, in Flanagan’s Carrie—will headline Rot alongside Cooper Koch, best-known for his Emmy-nominated turn as Erik Menendez in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Handling directing duties will be Alexandra Magistro, making her feature debut but hardly new to the horror business: she’s been an executive at Flanagan’s Red Room Pictures for nearly a decade. Her recent credits include executive producing Flanagan’s next film, The Exorcist: Martyrs; she’s also a writer and producer on Carrie.

Rot comes from a Black List script by Geo Bradley, which the trade describes as following “an antisocial man suffering from obsessive compulsions who is haunted by the death of his hoarder mother. The man takes on work as a trauma cleaner in hopes of facing his past, but the job soon begins to infest and unravel his mental state.”

Google “trauma cleaner” and you’ll understand even more about what kind of oozing nightmares Rot is poised to uncover, with a top-notch cast and crew bringing it to our eager eyeballs. Are you excited for this one?
