In a sea of hero shooters, Marvel Rivals continues to be the talk of the town, be it through its glittery movie collab and comic book crossover skins, bombastic gameplay, or having gamers and comic book fans alike fiending to find out which new hero will become their main. Today, Marvel Rivals gave players a glimpse at two new heroes that will undoubtedly change the hierarchy of fan-favorite debates.
Developer NetEase Games has unveiled a teaser for season four event The Heart of the Dragon, revealing the masked vigilante hailing from Hell’s Kitchen, Daredevil, and Angela, the brickhouse Norse goddess, will be joining its roster. And what better way to showcase what its new heroes can do in battle than to have them square off in a dazzling cinematic trailer rife with anime-esque impact frames and blisteringly fast action?
While Matt Murdock certainly needs no introduction, with the likes of Charlie Cox making Daredevil the low-key goat of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in both his Netflix and Disney+ shows, Angela does need a bit of backstory info dump for fans who might not be aware of her game. Angela, aka Aldrif Odinsdottir, was originally a Spawn character before making her way into the Marvel universe in 2013 during an Age of Ultron storyline.
In Marvel’s 2014 Original Sin run, Angela was then reintroduced as the long-lost sister of Thor (of whom he appears to have many). Since then, Angela has also been a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Her iteration in Marvel Rivals sees her as an imposing goddess that would give Overwatch 2‘s Zarya a run for her money in the bodybuilding department.
For those following Marvel Rivals’ ongoing live event storyline, here’s an official synopsis for where Daredevil and Angela fit into its story:
The Timestream Entanglement has drawn the Seven Capitals together, forming the Heart of Heaven. After Knull’s fall, Hela is imprisoned in the An’Hay-Zhidi, where Dizang—Devil of the Eighth City—dares her to atone for her sins. But Angela will not forgive her betrayal. She arrives in the Heart of Heaven demanding Hela be handed over, yet its guardian refuses to surrender someone under his protection. Justice will be served and a debt will be paid.
But while they fight, an even greater danger stirs. Doctor Doom seeks to steal the Chronal Chi of the slumbering dragon Shou-Lao, threatening to unravel the fate of the Heavens themselves.
Players will be able to check out Daredevil and Angela in Marvel Rivals in The Heart of the Dragon when it releases on September 12.
