We’re two weeks away from finally getting to see the film Guillermo del Toro was born to make, Frankenstein. It hits theaters on October 17 before its November 7 drop on Netflix, and the Oscar-winning director just shared some really beautiful behind-the-scenes photos.

Over on X, del Toro posted nine new photos from the production of the film, some of his actors between takes, but most intriguingly, of the incredible miniature work that was done for the film. Large buildings, expansive courtyards, and massive machinery, all created at a very small scale that will look huge when you see it in theaters. Here are those images.

That’s what it’s all about, is it not? Building things in real life so that when you see them on screen, they’re actually real, but infused with just the right touch of movie magic. There’s no way you’ll think those are minatures when you see them on screen, but they are.

Having not seen the film yet, we can’t confirm what all of these places are, but the attention to detail and scale are seriously impressive. Exactly what we’d expect from the man who has an entire second house to contain his love of all things movies, mythology, and collectibles.

As for those other new photos, you can check them out at the following links. There’s Oscar Isaac (channelling iconic artist Bernie Wrightson) at this link, another one of Isaac on set at this link, a really cool backlit image of del Toro’s cinematographer Dan Lausten on the set here, and finally one of star Mia Goth, very much living up to her name, holding a skull at this link.

Written and directed by del Toro, based on the novel by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein stars Oscar Isaac as the titular doctor, Jacob Elordi as his creature, and Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, and Christian Convery, with Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz. It opens in select theaters on October 17 before hitting Netflix on November 7.
