Keanu Reeves is ready to be an unkillable badass once more, this time in a movie based on his Boom Studios comic, BRZRKR.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming adaptation will be helmed by longtime Fast & Furious alum Justin Lin. Reeves previously became an angel investor in Lin’s upcoming biopic Last Days, but this is their first real collaboration together. Reeves and Boom have been trying to get a BRZRKR movie off the ground for a while—this was first announced all the way back in 2021 alongside a two-season anime adaptation. Reeves has been pretty busy since then, and the conversation around both projects faded, so don’t feel bad if you forgot this was happening.
Created by Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney, BRZKR focuses on the titular character, an immortal warrior who’s been killing his way throughout history. In the present day, he performs missions for the U.S. government in exchange for a way to find out why he’s immortal and how to reverse it so he can finally die. It was a big hit when it launched on Kickstarter, and it’s become a bit of a franchise unto itself. Along with a number of spinoff comics, Reeves teamed with author China Miéville on the 2024 novel The Book of Elsewhere, which is set in an alternate universe.
No news yet on when BRZRKR is coming out or when production starts; as THR notes, Lin is attached to Apple’s Charlize Theron/Daniel Craig vehicle Two For the Money, and may still be on hand to direct and produce the live-action One Punch Man film.
