The reign of Iron Man may be over, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the iconic mech suits from the Marvel franchise.

The new series, based on the comic book arc Ironheart, will follow young genius Riri Williams. If this name sounds familiar to you, it’s no surprise – Riri was first introduced to the MCU in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In her standalone series, the brilliant MIT student will continue to work on her suit, similar to the famous one owned by Tony Stark.

Ironheart will join the ever-growing list of Marvel Disney originals, which includes Agatha All Along and Daredevil: Born Again. Keep reading to find out more.

When will Ironheart be released?

In the US, Ironheart will premiere on Disney+ on Tuesday, 24 June 2025. In the United Kingdom, the series will drop on the service on Wednesday, 25 June 2025.

Ironheart will consist of six episodes, which will be released weekly on the service.

Ironheart was originally scheduled for autumn 2023, making it part of Marvel’s Phase 5 line-up. However, the series was delayed due to a reshuffle in projects.

If you want to know how Ironheart fits into the MCU timeline, see our guide on how to watch Marvel movies and series in order.

Cast and crew of Ironheart

Riri Williams will be portrayed by Dominique Thorne. Before Black Panther 2, Thorne had two acclaimed acting credits to her name: If Beale Street Could Talk and Judas And The Black Messiah.

This Is Us star Lyric Ross is joining Ironheart as Natalie Washington, Riri’s best friend.

In the Heights and Hamilton star Anthony Ramos will be playing Parker Robbins/The Hood, a supervillain from the comics and a leader of a dangerous gang, who is a bad influence on Riri. Robbins’ team includes:

  • Sonia Denis as pyrotechnics specialist Clown
  • Shakira Barrera as Ros Blood, the muscle
  • Zoe Terakes as Jerry Blood, Ros’ brother, and also muscle
  • Manny Montana as the knife-wielding HR John
  • Shea Couleé as Slug, a hacker and former drag queen
  • Eric André as tech specialist Stuart Clarke / Rampage

Sacha Baron Cohen has been tapped for the show, playing a mysterious character. Fans seem to suspect that he is none other than Mephisto – a figure who was expected by fans to make his debut in WandaVision. If you’re not familiar with the character, Mephisto is Marvel’s take on the devil. He has numerous abilities such as projecting illusions, super strength, altering time and manipulating people’s thoughts.

Alden Ehrenreich has also joined the cast as Joe McGillicuddy. The actor is best known for playing Han in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Other additions to the cast include:

  • Anji White as Ronnie Williams, Riri’s mother
  • Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Riri’s friend and neighbour
  • Jim Rash as the Dean of MIT, reprising his role from Captain America: Civil War
  • Paul Calderón as TBC
  • Harper Anthony as TBC
  • Cree Summer as TBC
  • Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola as TBC
  • Regan Aliyah as TBC

Disney

Chinaka Hodge is the head writer for the show (Variety). Hodge has previously worked on Amazing Stories and Snowpiercer. Director of the Black Panther series and The Sinners, Ryan Coogler, is an executive producer.

What will Ironheart be about?

Ironheart will introduce a newer figure in the Marvel comics, Riri Williams. Riri is a young genius who makes her own suit of amour that is reminiscent of the one built by Tony Stark.

In the comics, she becomes a mentee to him after her suit grabs his attention. Obviously, after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the MCU’s version of Riri Williams is a little different.

Riri was introduced to the world of superheroes through Shuri and Okoye in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever… if slightly reluctantly at first.

She was brought onto Wakanda’s side to fight against Naymor and the Talokan, and built a suit made from vibranium in Shuri’s lab. However, she was not allowed to keep the suit as Wakanda was worried about it falling into government or enemy hands.

Therefore, going into Ironheart, Riri will have the knowledge and connections from her time in Wakanda, but will still have to work on building a brand new suit.

As the synopsis for the series stated:

Set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Television’s Ironheart pits technology against magic when Riri Williams – a young, genius inventor determined to make her mark on the world – returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka The Hood.

In an interview with the The Direct, Thorne stated that Wakanda Forever showed more of a stressed side of Riri, so we can expect to see her personality in full bloom:

I really hope that folks remember, when they consider who they met and what they saw, that this was a girl under duress first and foremost. When you think about anything that you enjoyed, anything that you liked, or even didn’t like, remember that this was all a person who was stressed, she was fighting for her life. She’d never seen blue people before.

Is there a trailer for Ironheart?

Yes! Disney has already published two trailers for Riri’s tale.

The first one shows Riri joining Parker Robbins’ gang:

The second trailer delves a little deeper into Riri’s motivation:
