Users are now sharing, including on Reddit, that iOS 18 is causing extreme battery consumption on their iPhone 16, reports Appleinsider.
Historically, this is temporary and common with new hardware and after major operating system updates. Those who have been using iPhones for a long time should know that this also happened with the iOS 14 to iOS 17 upgrades.
If you notice that your iPhone is drawing more battery than usual, chances are you recently updated to iOS 18 or got a new iPhone. Even if you’re not actively using your phone, your iPhone is working in the background recreating and indexing databases like Spotlight, which drains battery power.
Right now there are hundreds of people complaining on Reddit and Apple’s own support forums. Apple hasn’t commented on the problem but we expect a fix soon.
“Literally within like 3-4 hours of being idle while I sleep it lost about 15-20%” said one user.
