JKMAX has recalled roughly 200,000 heated blankets and heating pads because the internal wire heating elements can overheat, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
JKMAX has received at least 577 reports of the blankets “smoking, melting or burning” from the heating elements overheating, with 53 reports of burn injuries. The blankets and pads were made in China and sold on Amazon from September 2022 through July 2026, per the CPSC’s warning.
Consumers are being told to stop using the blankets and to contact JKMAX for a full refund. If you own one of the recalled blankets you can contact the company at JKMAX at 800-917-5732 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or you can just email the company at [email protected].
The blankets come in a variety of sizes and colors. The exact models being recalled include:

- JKMAX-7284B
- JKMAX-6284B
- JKMAX-10090B
- JKMAX-8490B
- JKMAX-6284B
The company has provided a website on the CPSC website that’s supposed to relate to the recall (https://www.jkmaxrecall.com/), but it doesn’t appear to be operational. JKMAX didn’t immediately respond to questions emailed Monday. Gizmodo will update this article if we hear back.
There have been a number of recalls of heated blankets in recent years, including Heated Sherpa Throws and Blankets made by OCTROT, recalled this past July. Those blankets were also sold on Amazon and the company received at least 555 reports of blankets or throws melting, sparking and smoking, according to the CPSC. There were also 27 fires and 15 burn or electrical shock injuries, according to the safety agency.
Bedsure blankets and pads were also recalled in 2023 after that company received 137 reports of the blankets and pads catching fire, burning, and melting, according to CPSC. That recall saw at least 17 burn injuries, including one report of second degree burns. There was also property damage reported, something that didn’t pop up in the big recalls for JKMAX or OCTROT products.
Different heated blankets have different safety instructions, even when they’re not being recalled, so it’s important to determine if your blanket is designed to be used while sleeping. As the insurance company State Farm notes, it’s also important to check which accommodations any given heated blanket is usable on, like adjustable beds, sofa beds, or waterbeds. Keeping the blanket flat is often a consideration, since areas that are doubled up might heat each other, posing a fire risk.
