The third season of Hacks was the most optimistic of all. Deborah and Ava’s relationship began to settle down, and both women finally appreciated their friendship. In addition, the diva returned to the top of show business and began to pursue her biggest dream: hosting The Late Night show.
However, the creators of Hacks like to provide viewers with an emotional rollercoaster. Betrayal, disappointment, and blackmail marked the season finale, leaving fans on the verge of their seats and wondering if Ava and Deborah had reached the point of no return.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long for the answer. HBO has already released the official trailer for the beloved series, announcing a season 4 release date and revealing that the new episodes will be filled with a tense atmosphere.
When could Hacks season 4 be released?
Hacks will return for season 4 on Thursday, 10 April 2024. The new instalment of the show will consist of ten episodes.
After teasing season 4 during Emmy Awards 2024 (Hacks won three awards), the news about series renewal was announced via social media. The shooting for the fourth season kicked off in October 2024.
Season 2 arrived a year after season 1 was released. However, fans had to wait almost two years for season 3. The delay was caused mainly by the Hollywood strikes that lasted from May to September 2023. According to rumours, Hacks season 4 was supposed to premiere in early May 2025. Fortunately, Max has decided to bring the show back a few weeks earlier than expected.
What could the plot of Hacks season 4 be about?

The season 3 finale of Hacks was full of tears and anger. A painful betrayal was met with revenge, and Deborah and Ava officially became frenemies.
The official logline for the new season states:
Tensions rise as Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) endeavor to get their late-night show off the ground and make history doing it.
In season 4, both women should temper their strong emotions for the sake of the Late Night Show hosted now by Deborah. Knowing both characters, however, you can be sure we are in for plenty of quarrels and mutual malice.
As Jen Statsky, show’s co-creator, said:
We always knew that this season would end with Ava needing to take the head writer position from Deborah. Going into Season 4, they have a very new dynamic to their relationship because there is obviously going to be a lot of hurt feelings and a lot of animosity about what happened, and yet they have to make the show work because this is the biggest stage Deborah’s ever been on.

It’s possible that the creators will also want to continue the storyline of Kathy, Deborah’s sister, with whom the diva has a problematic relationship. We can be more than sure that DJ will also reappear – in the new season, she will probably give birth to her child.
As for other characters, season 4 will surely cover the struggles of Jimmy and Kayla, who are trying to run their own PR agency. We really hope to see if Jimmy actually makes a movie about silent film star Fatty Arbuckle and how Kayla will fit her new job as an agent.
