Govee just released new Wi-Fi-connected outdoor smart lighting, called Outdoor Chromatic String Lights, where each individual bulb can show a whole range of colors all by itself. The lights are available now and cost either $170 for a 10m (32.8ft) set or a whopping $300 for double that length.
The “Chromatic” part of this appears to refer to the fact that the bulbs each contain 55 RGB LEDs that will enable them to individually “produce rich, layered color effects,” according to Govee. The company says owners “can freely design lighting effects on each individual bulb, with up to three layered cycling effects.”
Think gradient effects similar to what you might see inside of larger lights like Govee’s upcoming Ceiling Light Ultra or LIFX’s Supercolor Candle Light. If you’ve used other effects-laden Govee lighting like the Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism, you might be familiar with the DIY feature, which a Govee representative said in an email these bulbs will use, too.

If you want to use the Chromatic String Lights with your smart home, they’re Matter-compatible, meaning they should be compatible with any of the major ecosystems. Just be aware that Matter doesn’t support controlling individual bulbs, let alone multiple distinct LEDs within those bulbs, so don’t expect to do more than on/off toggling and changing all of the bulbs’ color and brightness at once.
Lastly, Govee says the Chromatic String Lights will be IP67-rated, meaning they should be dust-tight and able to resist being temporarily immersed in water. The company says they’re durable enough to last “more than 10 years under typical outdoor conditions.” The lights are available now, both at Govee’s website and on Amazon.
