It has been known for some time that Google has decided to discontinue development of its tablet line.
In November, Android Authority suggested the upcoming Pixel Tablet 2 had been cancelled, as opposed to the Pixel Tablet 3 reported in an earlier Android Headlines article.
If true, this will mean no successor to 2023’s Pixel Tablet, which became available without the dock earlier this year.
However, details about what might’ve been have since emerged. According to a new Android Authority article, the product was at one point supposed to get a better display in the form of a 10.95-inch LCD, with the same image resolution as its predecessor but double the refresh rate at 120Hz.
Other upgrades included a new Tensor G4 processor – the last Pixel system chip Google made with Samsung. Starting with the Pixel 10, the Tensor G5 is expected to be developed on a TSMC process node instead.
Elsewhere, the Pixel Tablet 2 may also have had an upgraded 11Mp rear camera and was supposed to be released in two different models: one with 5G and one without. It’s not clear if the dock and dock-free versions were to continue.
However, none of that seems to matter now, as it looks like Google has cancelled the Pixel Tablet for good. The original is still available to buy from the Google website, but our best tablets and best Android tablets guides have plenty of alternatives.
