It seems that Google’s Pixel 11 series smartphones, which we won’t see more of until 2026 following the Pixel 10, will have better facial recognition for biometric unlocking methods.
Android Authority reports that leaked documents from Google have revealed that the Pixel 11 will be equipped with an infrared camera for facial recognition under the screen itself.

The new IR camera would make facial recognition more secure, and also avoid some issues that Google’s Pixel mobiles have since the Pixel 7.
As they use the regular colour camera on the front of the phone for facial recognition, they can have problems reading your face when there isn’t enough light, something an IR camera doesn’t have to worry about.
The Pixel 11 would not be the first Google mobile to be equipped with IR cameras, already the Pixel 4 had two IR cameras for facial recognition, but they were removed in the following Pixel generations due to the limited usability.
