The Google Lens image search engine is getting updated with new features to help you when you are shopping. You will soon be able to use Google Lens to look up more information about products you are interested in on store shelves.
All you have to do is take a picture of the product and Google Lens will be able to give you price comparisons with other stores, suggest other similar products that are in stock in the store, show user reviews, as well as general information about the product.
Initially, the new product search feature in Google Lens will only work for cosmetics, toys and electronics in stores that share inventory with Google.
“This new update is made possible by major advancements in our AI image recognition technology. It’s powered by the Shopping Graph’s 45 billion+ product listings, in-stock inventory data from a range of retailers and our Gemini models to bring you an entirely new way to shop in-store,” said Google.
The search feature is being launched today, in time for the holiday season on the Google app for Android and iOS. However, it’s only available for users in the US right now.
Google also announced recently you’ll be able to search for products in Maps and find physical stores with stock you can buy.
