‘Good Omens’ Season 3 Is Still Just One Episode, Despite Being Called That

Pop culture has become increasingly littered with projects that were once beloved, then became problematic and controversial thanks to something (or someone) gone awry behind the scenes. Fans must then decide if they want to keep paying attention—or tune out. Good Omens, the acclaimed Prime Video series starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen as a star-crossed demon and angel causing trouble on Earth, is just the latest example.

Making matters even more complicated, Good Omens occupies a little bit of a gray area. Neil Gaiman, who’d been very hands-on in seasons one and two, stepped back from the show based on the book he co-wrote with the late Terry Pratchett after allegations of sexual abuse (which Gaiman has denied) came to light. Season three was thereafter reshaped into a 90-minute special episode rather than a whole six-episode season, without Gaiman’s direct involvement beyond some initial scripting, as was reported by Deadline at the time.

But Good Omens is still very much associated with the disgraced author. He may no longer be a showrunner or producer, and someone else might have stepped in to handle the writing, but the credits will no doubt remind us the show is based on his novel with Pratchett.

With the final chapter of Good Omens arriving soon, Prime Video has started teasing its return. In February, we learned the May 13 release date, and today a new bit of key art featuring the “ineffable husbands” and their feathery wings was released on social media. The wording on it, however, might seem a little confusing at first glance.

“Season three”? “New season”? Had Prime Video decided that with Gaiman out, maybe it could find a way to do a full finale run of Good Omens after all?

Nope. Nothing has changed. Prime Video confirmed to io9 that the previous reports stand, and Good Omens season three is still a 90-minute single episode.

Considering Sheen said in June 2025 that he wasn’t sure if the special would ever be released (“I really don’t know what’s going to happen with it … Tennant and I] were both relieved we finished the story, but that’s within this really difficult, complicated, disturbing context. I hope people get to see it, but that, to a large extent, is out of our hands”), perhaps we should be glad it’s finally being offered up to audiences.

Of course, whether or not people will actually want to watch remains to be seen. Will you be able to put controversy aside and tune in to see what happens with Crowley’s and Aziraphale’s cosmic romance? Or is the lingering Gaiman factor too much of an ick?

If it’s the former, Good Omens “season three” arrives May 13.
