Godzilla Has Descended Upon Haneda Airport

A couple months ago, Toho and Haneda Airport announced plans to welcome international arrivals in style and mark Godzilla’s ongoing anniversary celebrations with a massive statue of the King of the Monsters. Now, the statue is in place, and honestly, just look at him.

Today the movie studio officially unveiled the statue, which will welcome and bid farewell to international passengers through Haneda’s Terminal 3, towering over its main concourse. Based on Godzilla’s classic design from the 1954 original, the statue is equal parts intimidating in its scope and wonderfully goofy in its retro charms, right down to the bright, mismatched eyes looking exactly like the old monster suits, rather than an idealized, self-serious vision of the legendary Kaiju.

As well as the big Godzilla himself, the opening of the statue will also be joined by smaller exhibits throughout Terminal 3, including a distinctly smaller statue of Godzilla as he appears in Takashi Yamazaki’s smash-hit Godzilla Minus One, as well as Godzilla: The Great Monster Advance Picture Scroll, a massive mural marking the last 70 years of Godzilla’s cinematic history, as well as all the Kaiju frenemies he’s made along the way.

You’ll be able to say hello to Godzilla travelling to Haneda Airport any time in the next year, with the statue set to depart in December 2026. Hopefully, by then, we won’t be waiting much longer for the arrival of Godzilla Minus Zero to keep the good(zilla) times rolling.
