Endgame’ Is Returning to Theaters Before ‘Doomsday’

The second biggest movie in history, which had the biggest opening in history, is coming back to make some more history. Avengers: Endgame, the 2019 juggernaut that brought a close to Marvel Studios’ 11-year Infinity Saga, will return to theaters on September 25, 2026, to get fans ready for the next Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, though it’s unclear how wide or how long the film would open for. Currently, Endgame is only about $124 million away from beating Avatar as the highest-grossing film in history, but that would be an incredible amount for a re-release to gross. But one thing we’ve learned is to never underestimate Marvel.

The main reason for the re-release, though, will be to get audiences excited for Doomsday, which opens a few months later on December 18, 2026. In terms of canon, it doesn’t make much sense, as over a dozen films and at least that many TV shows have been released between the fourth and fifth Avengers movies. In fact, so much has happened that a hero who dies in Endgame, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man, returns in Doomsday as the main villain, Doctor Doom.

But in terms of just excitement and a reminder of how much fun it can be to see a big, exciting, surprising Marvel movie in theaters, this seems like a smart plan. And, you have to assume, there will be some sort of teaser at the end to give fans one final taste before Doomsday.

Directed by the Russo Brothers (who are also returning to direct Doomsday), Avengers: Endgame opened in April 2019 and grossed over $350 million in its opening weekend. It went on to gross almost $2.8 billion internationally.

Will you be heading back out to the theater to see Avengers: Endgame once again? What kind of teasers do you think the re-release will have? Let us know below.
