‘Dragon Ball Super’ Is Back, and It’s Going Galactic

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball anime, which has persisted from Z to GT, Super, and the most recent series, Daima. For its next outing, we’re returning to Super, with a brand new arc in the works dubbed Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol.

Announced during Japan’s Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event, the new adventure will find Goku and Vegeta working with the titular organization. The Patrol are the galaxy’s peacekeepers, and they need the help of the two Saiyans to face the arc’s big bad, “Planet-Eater” Moro. It’s currently in production and featured in an anniversary video highlighting the various anime shows and films spanning the franchise’s history.

In the more immediate future, the anime’s being continued with Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, an “enhanced” remake of the 2013 film, Battle of the Gods. This new version promises to be more faithful to Akira Toriyama’s original ideas and make a better villaion out of Beerus. Look for it to hit this fall.

Finally, we got a look at the latest video game from Bandai Namco, codenamed “Age 1000.” The teaser opens with a white-haired man wearing a uniform with the Capsule Corp logo, after which “Akira Toriyama Presents” appears onscreen—and when the character’s fingers flex and he comes to life, it suggests this game will have some of the last (if not the last) original characters made by Toriyama before his passing.

After he punches some holographic dummies, our unnamed character decides it’s time to go Super Saiyan. The camera then zooms into his eyes, showing the outlines of franchise characters like Frieza, Cell, and Goku (obviously). It’s that last one that gets our character revved up, but does that mean he’s a descendant of Goku? We’ll have to wait to find out more: the game itself comes out in 2027, and more info will be revealed at April’s Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour.
