Disney’s ‘Galaxy’s Edge’ Timeline Reboot Erased a Galactic Starcruiser Nod

For both better and worse, Star Wars fans will never forget the highs and lows of the infamous “Star Wars hotel,” aka the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. The same can’t be said, however, for Disney itself, which just removed a fun reference to it in the latest update to its theme parks.

Disney is currently in the process of giving Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, a refresh. It was once fully set in a time period between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker but is being switched over to a wider, vaguer time period that includes earlier eras. That means characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia will be roaming the area starting April 29.

Among the pieces that are being refurbished and updated is Oga’s Cantina, the park’s watering hole where you can get an adult beverage and hear DJ-R3X, voiced by Paul Reubens, spin some tunes. Before the refurbishment, there was a fun wink to Starcruiser in the bar, but after being closed for a few weeks, it has been removed.

WDW News Today noticed the change. Before the bar closed, there was a sign on the wall that said, “Mechanic Wanted! Experience with Chandrilan class 1 starships required. Ability to speak Shyriiwook a plus. Contact Captain R. Keevan of the Halcyon, CSL.” The Halcyon, of course, is the name of the specific Starcruiser you were on at Galactic Starcruiser.

Well, that is now gone. It’s been replaced with a sign that says, “Make some quick credits! Sell your surplus! Imperial, Rebel, Republic, or Separatist—Black Spire Outpost will buy it all!”

Obviously, it’s a very subtle change. Even more so when you realize both of those signs are in Aurebesh, the official language of Star Wars. So you’d need to decode it before you’d even notice. But that’s what WDW News Today did.

The new message certainly speaks to the less specific Star Wars timeline the park is shifting to. And the Galactic Starcruiser will never officially die, especially since it was woven into the Star Wars canon. But it’s still a little sad to see even more references to the failed experiment go away.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland will fully reopen with the new music, characters, and more on April 29. That’ll be followed on May 22 with the new Mandalorian and Grogu version of the Millennium Falcon ride. Read more about each at those links.
