The new year isn’t bringing good news to Discovery+ subscribers, as the service is raising prices for both its plans in the United States.
Discovery Plus, owned by the media conglomerate Warner Bros. Discovery, mainly features documentary productions and reality shows from channels such as the Discovery Channel, HGTV, Magnolia Network and TCL. After Warner Bros. and Discovery merged in 2022, the service retained its autonomy, although a big chunk of its library is also available on Max.
In 2024, streaming platform subscribers were flooded with announcements of price hikes. Costs went up for most of the leading services, such as Disney+, Hulu, Max, Peacock and Paramount Plus. Discovery Plus on the other hand hadn’t increased its prices since 2023… until now that is.
Fortunately, the price hike for Discovery Plus won’t be high – costs for each tier will increase by one dollar.
Prices will thus look as follows:
- Discovery+ Ad-supported Plan – Increasing from $4.99 to $5.99 per month
- Discovery+ Ad-free Plan – Increasing from $8.99 to $9.99 per month
Current users will see the price hike during their next billing cycle or after 7 February 2025. Those who want to join the service now will already see updated subscription prices.
For now, there’s no information that the price hike would also take place in the UK.
