It seems Ryan Reynolds wasn’t trolling his fans after all. Earlier this week, the Deadpool actor posted a logo from Deadpool & Wolverine teasing a connection to the Avengers. Was he joking? Was he not? Well, it turns out, he wasn’t. Deadpool will reportedly appear in some capacity in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. He just won’t be a member of the team.

The Hollywood Reporter reported the news of the character’s addition, and io9 has reached out to Marvel Studios for any clarity or confirmation and will update this post when or if we hear back. Earlier this year, though, Marvel spent the better part of the day revealing the insanely huge cast for the upcoming film, which is now coming to theaters in December 2026. Reynolds was one of the more glaring omissions, especially since Channing Tatum was in there, and he returned in Deadpool & Wolverine. Rumors did persist that there were still some surprises to be had, though; apparently, Deadpool is one of them.

But that was still just a dream scenario. There were no real indicators that it might happen… until earlier this week. That’s when Reynolds, seemingly out of nowhere, posted the Avengers symbol with the anarchy “A” drawn on top, which was seen in the Void scenes of Deadpool & Wolverine. Why do that? He wasn’t promoting the movie again. He was teasing something, and now it seems we know what it is.

So Deadpool is in Avengers: Doomsday. And while we still don’t know, exactly, what the movie is about, the Hollywood Reporter had that one extra bit of info: “Don’t expect him to actually be joining the Avengers team, though.” This is something Reynolds himself has said on a few occasions. “I don’t think he should ever be an Avenger or an X-Man,” the actor said late last year. “I think Deadpool works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider. His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted. His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.”

Will this be where Deadpool sees Thor crying? What else might happen? We’ve got a year and a half to wait and find out.
