A new chapter of the DC film universe is kicking off. In December 2024, the first production prepared by James Gunn as part of the franchise’s reboot, the animated Creature Commandos, dropped on Max. The gory and campy series fits into the adult superhero genre, along with shows such as Peacemaker, Invincible and The Boys, and has been a success.
Fans of the monstrous mercenaries don’t need to worry: Warner Bros. has already green-lit season 2. But when will the new episodes arrive on Max, and which characters will return? Here’s everything we know about the second instalment of the animated show.
When will Creature Commandos season 2 be released?
According to Variety, the series was renewed for a second season on 23 December 2024, less than three weeks after its premiere. The news was officially confirmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran in February 2025. However, for now, it’s unknown when season 2 will arrive.
In 2023, James Gunn announced an eight to ten-year plan for DC called Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. It includes Creature Commandos season 1 as an entry into the rebooted universe. In July 2025, we will get a new Superman movie, which will be the grand opening of the rebooted universe. Later, the second season of Peacemaker is likely to show up – it will feature Rick Flag Sr, who was introduced in Creature Commandos in animated form.
During the press event at Warner Bros. on 24 February 2024, Peter Safran and James Gunn revealed a little more about their plans. According to Collider, the co-CEOs of DC Studios are aiming to release two live-action films and one animated film per year, as well as two live-action and two animated series for Max annually.
The Gods and Monsters phase features several other films and series, and it’s unclear how the second season of Creature Commando would fit into that list. There’s a chance that season 2 may arrive in 2026 at the earliest. However, the release date may slip to 2027.
What will the plot of Creature Commandos season 2 be?
Spoilers for season 1 below.
The first season was only an introduction to the tale of the monster squad. It debuted the gang members and outlined the Pokolistan and Circe plots. The story will likely speed up in the new season, with the Creature Commandos finding themselves at the heart of political intrigue with no one to trust.
It’s possible that Princess Ilana will return in the second season, although she was shot in the head by The Bride in the season 1 finale. While she looked dead, let’s not forget that Creature Commandos is a tongue-in-cheek superhero show – the Princess may be resurrected in some supernatural plot twist.
The situation looks similar for Nina Mazursky, who at the end of the first season, was stabbed several times by Ilana and died in the pond. However, it’s possible that due to her unusual hybrid nature, she may come back to life – or be revived by some crazy scientist or magic-wielding character.

In addition to work-related problems, the protagonists will probably struggle with their personal traumas. We may learn more details about the past of the already-known characters and get to know the group’s new members, namely King Shark, Nosferata and Khalis.
The plot with Frankenstein’s monster, who relentlessly stalks The Bride trying to hook up with her, is also likely to develop.
Who will return in Creature Commandos season 2?
We expect that the following members will return in the second season:
- Rick Flag Sr – voiced by Frank Grillo
- The Bride – voiced by Indira Varma
- Doctor Phosphorus – voiced by Alan Tudyk
- Weasel – voiced by Sean Gunn
- GI Robot – voiced by Sean Gunn
- Eric Frankenstein – voiced by David Harbour
- Amanda Waller – voiced by Viola Davis
- John Economos – voiced by Steve Agee
- Circe – voiced by Anya Chalotra
It’s unclear if we’ll see the return of Princess Ilana, voiced by Maria Bakalova and Nina Mazursky, voiced by Zoë Chao.

Who will join the team in the Creature Commandos season 2?
As was teased in the season 1 finale, Creature Commandos will get new members in its second instalment.
Firstly, the team will be joined by King Shark, voiced by Diedrich Bader. The humanoid shark has been part of many DC films and series. His most notable appearances include the one in The Suicide Squad movie (2021), where Sylvester Stallone voiced him. King Shark, dubbed by Ron Funches, is also a vital character in the Harley Quinn series – this version, unlike the others, is kind and peaceful. For now, it’s unknown if there will be any connection between Creature Commandos’ King Shark and the version of the character from the previous DC projects.
Another character joining The Bride’s team will be Nosferata – a vampirish girl with bat-like wings and ears. In the DC comics, she’s a nearly immortal supervillain who can fly, regenerate and transform into various creatures.
The group will also get support from Khalis – a revived Egyptian mummy with superhuman strength and durability.
For now, it’s unknown who will voice Nosferata and Khalis.
