Android Authority reports that Google’s streaming device, Chromecast, seems to have suffered from connectivity problems over the last few days.
The issues affect the 2nd-gen Chromecasts, as well as Chromecast Audio. Many Reddit users state that they can no longer cast to the devices.
Google has announced that it is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. In the meantime, they are now advising users against factory resetting Chromecast devices:

That advice has come a little too late, as many upset users on the forum state that Google’s own troubleshooting guide previously suggested a factory reset as a possible solution.
Although Google has started to phase out Chromecast in some regions, including the UK and the US, the streaming device should continue to work for at least a little longer.
Based on when updates halted for the 1st-gen Chromecast, we estimate that support for the 2nd-gen Chromecast could end later this year. However, Google has already confirmed that these problems are not because of that.
Software and security updates should continue, and Google would alter it’s help pages if that changed.
At the time of writing the issues are still happening, and Google is still working on a fix to roll out “as soon as possible”.
