For all that talk about superhero fatigue and the underwhelming publicity stunt concocted around those Avengers: Doomsday teasers, there’s one Marvel star who can feel confident about how fans are waiting to greet his latest movie. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has set another new record with its trailer, racking up one billion views in just four days.
That popularity didn’t just come out of nowhere. As we learned last week, within a day of its release, the Brand New Day trailer had already passed Marvel’s own Deadpool & Wolverine for being the most-viewed movie trailer in a 24-hour period. (The previous holder of the top spot was Spider-Man: No Way Home.)
Then Brand New Day‘s view count bested even the trailer for the video game Grand Theft Auto VI, which previously held the record for the most-viewed trailer debut ever.
But now, the goalpost has been moved even further. As Variety reports, the Brand New Day trailer took just four days to reach one billion views, becoming “the first film trailer ever to surpass the mega milestone.” It now has 1.1 billion views, per WaveMetrix, further cementing its status as the biggest movie trailer in history.”
As we knew, the trailer grabbed 718.6 million views in its first 24 hours, so there wasn’t that much further to go to get there. But those are still a lot of eyeballs eager to see what Peter Parker is up to.
And it goes without saying that sort of viewing frenzy for the trailer bodes well for Brand New Day‘s box office haul. We’ll find out if that’s true when Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Trammell Tillman, Michael Mando, and more, hits theaters on July 31.
