Amid a busy movie year, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day continue to be the biggest moneymakers of 2026.

In their respective third and second weekends, both movies broke some records. After collecting $461.1 million domestic this weekend, The Odyssey has officially become the highest-grossing movie of director Christopher Nolan’s career. The new milestone puts it just barely above the Dark Knight sequels, which respectively grossed $1.085 billion (Dark Knight Rises) and $1.005 billion (The Dark Knight). And if that weren’t impressive enough, it’s the second-biggest R-rated movie, domestic and globally, since 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Meanwhile, Brand New Day is looking to add another $145 domestic to its take, giving it the third-biggest week two ever. According to Variety, only eight movies have made over $100 million domestic in their sophomore weekends, with the top two being Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($147 million). In total, Spider-Man’s made $655 million domestic and $1.67 billion worldwide.

That latter number puts the film in spitting distance of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s $1.921 billion. As is, Brand New Day’s already the highest-grossing movie of 2026, and at the rate it’s moving, it’ll likely surpass its precessor made this time next week. (The Odyssey, for what it’s worth, is the fourth-highest behind Toy Story 5 and Michael.) There’s a handful of genre films out in August—The End of Oak Street (August 14), Insidious 6 and It Ends (August 21), and Coyote vs. Acme (August 28), but can they take the domestic or global crowns from Spider-Man?
