Blumhouse Wants You to Remember Brendan Fraser Isn’t in This ‘Mummy’

Most of us have this straight already, but Blumhouse wants to make things very, very clear. On April 17, Blumhouse and Warner Bros. are releasing The Mummy. But not just any Mummy. It’s Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. Just don’t get it mixed up with a version of The Mummy that most fans have been aware of for the past 30 years.

That’s 1999’s The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser, a franchise that, in very good news, is returning to theaters in a few years. But on Monday on X, Blumhouse just wanted to put a line in the sand between the two in a very funny way.

BRENDAN FRASER IS NOT IN LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY

Thank you very, very much, Blumhouse. But it does make you wonder, is Brendan Fraser in any movies coming up? Enter Focus Features:

BRENDAN FRASER IS IN ANTHONY MARAS’ PRESSURE (MAY 29) https://t.co/oqEGTaPpLc

— Focus Features (@FocusFeatures) April 6, 2026

There you go. Pressure is a World War II film in which Fraser plays Dwight D. Eisenhower, so that’s cool, but not something we’d cover here. We love Mummy movies, though, so we very much enjoyed this interaction and felt like it was worth breaking these things down.

The Mummy first rose to popularity in 1932 in a film starring Boris Karloff as the titular character. It launched a Universal Monsters franchise, which, in 1999, was rebooted with a more modern, Indiana Jones flair starring Fraser and Rachel Weisz. That pair made two Mummy films, with Weisz leaving for a third one. Years later, Tom Cruise starred in a failed reboot of The Mummy, and then Lee Cronin, the director of Evil Dead Rise, was set to make his own version. That’s the one out this year.

However, as the world gets ready to see Cronin’s completely unrelated take on The Mummy starring a young girl as the title character, Fraser and Weisz are returning for a fourth film, which will be out in 2028.

So yes. It’s a lot of Mummies. But don’t stay after the credits of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, hoping to see a tease for 2028. Just stay to see the names of the people who made that one possible.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy opens April 17. The new Fraser Mummy, directed by Radio Silence, is scheduled for release on May 19, 2028.
