Black Mirror fans felt excitement and joy—unfamiliar emotions to associate with the dystopian series, to be honest—upon learning that the show’s seventh season would include a sequel to season four’s “USS Callister.” Now that “USS Callister: Into Infinity” has hit Netflix, putting its cast of humans and digital-clones-trapped-in-a-video-game through a new high-stakes adventure, the question has now become: will there be a third installment for “Callister” fans?

Jimmi Simpson, who plays Walton—a character who’s either odious or brave, depending on which version you meet—is 100% enthusiastic about another return.

“I would hold the boom mic for [Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker] if he wanted me to,” he told the Hollywood Reporter in a new interview. “I’m in, whatever that is.”

Simpson also already has an idea about which character he’d like to see the next “Callister” explore: programmer Dudani, who’s heroic in the game but somewhat morally corruptible in the real world. “I want to know more about Dudani,” Simpson said. “Paul [G. Raymond], the actor who plays him, is really, really gifted. I can’t wait to see that character blossom. I feel like that’s the next one that will really come to life.”

The ending of “Into Infinity,” which sees all the digital clones become trapped inside the brain of Nanette (Cristin Milioti), certainly leaves more runway to expand the story. “This ending does throw into question a whole lot of shit long-term for the existence of these people,” Simpson said. “But I think it also is perfect not only in Black Mirror world but also in our world. It says, ‘Okay, so you were unhappy with that? How about this? Now, what do you think? Figure it out!’”

“There are a lot of unanswered questions, and that is the next step. They stepped outside of this imminent danger and what they have now is each other, truly in a deeper way. And there’s stuff to explore there. Obviously, we know with personalities forced into this space, there’s going to be some wild shit. But I really respect this ending very much, and I enjoy it.”

Brooker has said he’s considering more Black Mirror sequel episodes, so we may yet learn what’s next for Walton and his friends and frenemies. For now, you can stream Black Mirror seasons 1-7 on Netflix.
