Before ‘Avengers’, Simu Liu’s Brain Has Been Hacked in ‘The Copenhagen Test’

Have you been dying to see more Simu Liu? Well, if so, he’ll return as Shang Chi in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday, and much sooner, he’s the star of a new sci-fi spy show coming to Peacock called The Copenhagen Test. The first trailer was just released, and it’s got a tantalizing premise as well as two killer leads.

Premiering December 27 on Peacock, The Copenhagen Test stars Liu as an intelligence officer who finds out he has unwillingly become a spy. How does one “unwillingly” become a spy, you ask? Well, because their brain is hacked, enabling someone to watch and hear everything you do. Which is great for those people if the subject isn’t aware but becomes a dangerous weapon if they are. Here’s the new trailer.

Yes, that’s Scream star Melissa Barrera along for the ride, as well as Sinclair Daniel (Insidious: The Red Door), Brian d’Arcy James (Spotlight), and Mark O’Brien (Ready or Not). The whole thing has a sort of Minority Report meets Jason Bourne vibe, and we are certainly intrigued.

Adding to that is James Wan and his Atomic Monster company are aboard as producers, and it’s showrun by Thomas Brandon (Legacies) and Jennifer Yale (See, Outlander). It’s a strong team both in front of and behind the camera.

The issue is that this is on Peacock. Even if the show is amazing, most shows on that streamer find it difficult to stay afloat. Poker Face and Twisted Metal both feel as if they are barely hanging on for dear life. The excellent Mrs. Davis only made it one season. The streamer made a whole MacGruber show for crying out loud, and that came and went rather quietly. Surely there are dozens more as well. It’s going to be tough for The Copenhagen Test to find its footing, no matter what, but it’s got the most important things. A great cast, a cool premise, and a talented team behind it.

The Copenhagen Test starts on December 27.
