After Frankenstein, Guillermo del Toro wants to explore a new aesthetic. R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead is heading to the big screen. Plus, what’s coming on the next episode of Ghosts. Spoilers now!

Frankenstein

Without saying the word “gothic,” Guillermo del Toro recently told Empire he “needs[s] a change” from “a certain type of aesthetic” that’s marked his career to this point.

This movie closes the cycle. If you look at the lineage, from Cronos to The Devil’s Backbone, to Pan’s Labyrinth to Crimson Peak to this, this is an evolution of a certain type of aesthetic, and a certain type of rhythm, and a certain type of empathy. I feel like I need a change […] You never know, the day after tomorrow, I may want to do Jekyll & Hyde, or whatever. But right now, my desire is to try and do something very different.

Scream 7

After previously reporting as such, Entertainment Weekly has now retracted its statement that Hayden Panettiere will appear in Scream 7, adding, “Her involvement has not been confirmed.”

Insidious 6

Deadline reports Laura Gordon has joined the cast of Insidious 6 in a currently undisclosed role.

R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead

THR reports Bean Reid, Adeline Lo, Kevin McNulty, Bob Frazer, Matty Finochio, and Seth Isaac Johnson will star in R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead, a feature adaptation of Stine’s short story, which was previously adapted into an episode of The Haunting Hour. Directed by Jem Garrard (Slay), the story “centers on teenage Sam, whose family’s move to Redhaven is made worse when his brother Finn disappears—and no one else remembers that he existed.” The film is slated to debut on Tubi this October 17.

The Chronicles of Narnia

During a recent interview with Today, Mark Ronson revealed he’s “working on the music” for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia.

Predator: Badlands

Director Dan Trachtenberg confirmed “there’s no Xenomorph” in Predator: Badlands, but promised “great, organic story reasons” for the inclusion of Weyland-Yutani.

There’s no Xenomorph in this movie. But to me, that makes it more exciting. We’re not involving [the Alien franchise] just to smush the action figures together. There are great, organic story reasons for Weyland-Yutani to be in this film.
